This is a group of proteins found primarily in viruss.ukaryotes and in the pathogenic bacterium Chlamydia pneumoniae. In viruses they are annotated as replicase or RNA-dependant RNA polymerase. The eukaryotic sequences are related to the Ovarian Tumour (OTU) gene in Drosophila.ezanne deubiquitinating peptidase and tumor necrosis factor.lpha-induced protein 3 (MEROPS peptidase family C64) and otubain 1 and otubain 2 (MEROPS peptidase family C65). None of these proteins has a knownbiochemical function but low sequence similarity with the polyprotein regionsof arteriviruses.nd conserved cysteine and histidine.nd possibly the aspartate.esidues suggests that those not yet recognised as peptidases could possess cysteine protease activity .
