The proteins are predicted to form extended rods composed of 2 alpha-helical segments (~180 residues long) capable of forming coiled coils.nterrupted by non-helical linkers . The 2 segments are similar in sequence.ndicating a gene duplication event. Along each tektin rod.ysteine residues occur with a periodicity of ~8nm.oincident with theaxial repeat of tubulin dimers in microtubules . It is proposed thatthe assembly of tektin heteropolymers produces filaments with repeats of8.6.4.2.0.8 and 96nm.enerating the basis for the complexspatial arrangements of axonemal components .
