In the periphery.eurotensin is found in endocrine cells of thesmall intestine.here it leads to secretion and smooth muscle contraction. The neurotensin/neuromedin N precursor can also be processed toproduce large 125-138 amino acid peptides with the neurotensin or neuromedinN sequence at their C-terminus. These large peptides appear to be lesspotent than their smaller counterparts.ut are also less sensitive to degradation and may represent endogenous.ong-lasting activators in anumber of pathophysiological situations.
