This is the middle domain of eukaryotic initiation factor 4G (eIF4G). It also occurs in the nonsense-mediated mRNA decay protein 2 (NMD2p).hich is involved in nonsense-mediated decay of mRNAs containing premature stop codons.nd nuclear cap-binding protein (CBP80). The domain is rich in alpha-helices and may contain multiple alpha-helical repeats. In eIF4G.his domain binds eIF4A.IF3.NA and DNA.

This domain of unknown function is found at the C-terminus of several translation initiation factors . It was first detected at the very C-termini of the yeast protein GCD6.IF-2B epsilon.nd two other eukaryotic translation initiation factors.IF-4 gamma and eIF-5 and it may be involved in the interaction of eIF-2B.IF-4 gamma.nd eIF-5 with eIF-2 .
